Creative minds love to create. Sometimes an idea is created and nurtured that makes no sense... but it just might work. Combine this with a smoker grill that "makes a bad cook look good", and you have a confidence booster equal to a late night drinking spree with an "I can do anything" complex.
It started some time back when I saw a post of watermelon on the grill. I like watermelon. I like grills. That is how this idea starts. Soon it morphs into "smoker grills are better". Watermelon on a smoker grill? Yes, I say to myself... it might work. Here is the challenge, I also like bacon...alot. Naturally, I came up with the concept of bacon covered smoked watermelon. To me it seems like an unlikely combo such as bacon and chocolate, but somehow that works. I kept on thinking about this watermelon and bacon combo and thought "so wrong it might be right!". I had to try.
oh yes I did.
What an amazing looking creation. Mouth watering. Bacon. Watermelon. Genius.
OK, you can sense the Friday night bravado kicking in here. Excited, I carried this creation out to the smoker grill for its final journey to smokey perfection. As I carried out this my little bundle of joy, people at this event gathered around to gawk at what just might be "so wrong it might be right" perfection.
Here is picture of it on the grill getting close.

Sliced perfection?

Wow, I was ready to take a bite of this! To enjoy this. The build up. The excitement. The anticipation. It has to be good...
And no. It was not good my friend. This creation was far from good. Not even on the same page as good. It is not often that something I make does not turn out to my liking... but this is in the top two of the worst grill items I have made. To be fair, I tried a second piece just in case it happened to be an acquired taste. Finally assured this is not a taste I want to acquire ever again... this idea was scrapped. Now out of the people that did try it, there was one lone ranger that liked it. Liked it so much he ate a second piece willingly. To this man I raise my glass and nod... well done. As for me, the official title of this creation is "so wrong... it is just wrong".
Fortunately, I do not take myself too seriously. Mistakes are great things to learn from. I particularly like to learn from other people's mistakes. Occasionally though, we all must learn from our own school of hard knocks.
This got me thinking. I see so many great cooks posted that look amazing. I would love to hear about some cooks that did not work out. Utter Failures on the grill that need to be aired and shared. So, what is one of the worst grill creations you have made? Fess up, we all have one or two! Let the stories begin!
